Environmental Education

Sturgeon City

Current operations provide for program spaces along with meeting and event space.

The nonprofit operates out of the site of the former Wilson Bay Wastewater Treatment Plant. Our programs take place in our Environmental Education Center and we use additional features of the site such as boardwalks, outdoor areas, and a City of Jacksonville park to enhance learning.

What People Are Saying

Sturgeon City is such an awesome part of Jacksonville NC. It is a great local resource for learning about the environment. They also have a great monthly Teen Cafe and host a variety of other learning opportunities. We just held a Treasures of the Earth themed birthday at there location and the kids had a great time. They learned how to make fossils, found shark teeth and got to take a geode home too.

This place schedules amazing events for our children during the day. At night it becomes an elegant place for gathering. The staff is unbelievable helpful and welcoming (considering they handle little kids during the day end big kids at night!). Well done Sturgeon City.

We had a good time today. Danielle did an awesome job with our older kids teaching and guiding them through a squid dissection. She was very interactive with them and encouraged them. The only thing that could have made this event better was having better communication for the plans. We were told we were also looking at water samples under a microscope and they weren’t prepared for that.
