Green Time Not Screen Time: Cultivating a Sustainable Future
Sturgeon City is on a mission to bring nature into the classroom and inspire a love of the environment in our community. We’re seeking your support to create a vibrant pollination garden and outdoor classrooms that will provide immersive, hands-on learning experiences for students, families, and community members of all ages.
Our outdoor classrooms will serve as living laboratories, where participants can explore the wonders of nature, learn about the importance of pollinators, and understand the threats they face. By studying bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, we can gain valuable insights into ecosystem health and develop strategies to protect these vital creatures.
Our pollination garden will be a haven for pollinators, providing them with food, shelter, and nesting sites. It will also serve as a beautiful and educational space for visitors to enjoy. By supporting this initiative, you’re helping to create a sustainable future for our community and the planet.
Join us in promoting Green Time Not Screen Time and the many benefits of spending time in nature. Studies have shown that being outdoors can reduce stress, improve mental health, and boost creativity. Together, we can make a positive impact on our environment and inspire future generations to become responsible stewards of our planet.
Sturgeon City Environmental Education Center receives $10,000 grant from the TELUS North Carolina Community Board, supporting their Pollination Garden and Outdoor Classrooms
Sturgeon City Environmental Education Center is thrilled to announce a $10,000 grant from the TELUS North Carolina Community Board. This generous contribution will directly support the creation of a new Pollination Garden and Outdoor Classrooms, fostering environmental and Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) education.
“We are incredibly grateful for the support of TELUS,” says Lisa Murabito, Executive Director of Sturgeon City. “Our outdoor classrooms will be living laboratories, where students can learn about the wonders of nature firsthand. Spending time outdoors not only reduces stress and improves mental health, but also fosters creativity – all key components of our Green Time Not Screen Time initiative.”
The TELUS grant will be used to establish a vibrant Pollination Garden, complete with essential materials like ADA complaint raised beds, soil, seeds, and gardening tools. Additionally, funds will be directed towards the development of dedicated Outdoor Classrooms, including seating, tables, and educational displays. A significant portion of the grant will be used to integrate technology into the program. This includes soil moisture sensors, weather monitoring stations, and laptops for data collection. These tools will enhance the learning experience and provide students with a deeper understanding of environmental science principles.
Sturgeon City invites the community to join them in creating a vibrant, inclusive space that fosters curiosity, inspires action, and cultivates a deep connection with the natural world. Your contributions will transform the Environmental Education Center into a dynamic learning hub, empowering students to become future environmental leaders and advocates.
